1. Kalamazoo Institute of Arts 

The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is something that you will want to go and visit. The institute has a variety of different collections as well as exhibits. The collection includes pieces of East Asian Art, Pre-Columbian Gold and Ceramics, African Art, Oceanic Objects, and more. The exhibits that they feature rotate. On their website, you are able to see the past, current, and upcoming exhibits. Keep going back and visiting to see the most current exhibits.

2. Gilmore Car Museum 

The Gilmore Car Museum is a unique museum that offers a variety of different collections and exhibits that you will want to see. The museum offers both permanent exhibits as well as rotating exhibits. Some of the permanent exhibits include Dust Bowl: The Great Migration, Realistic to Whimsical: Tin Toy Cars of Yesteryear, Born to Perform: The Era of the Muscle Car, and more. You also won’t want to miss the special exhibits and the seasonal exhibits that are only open from April to November.

3. Kalamazoo Nature Center

The Kalamazoo Nature Center is a great place to go either by yourself or with family or friends. The nature center features more than 14 miles of trails as well as programs. They have several different hiking trails that they have labeled as either accessible, easy-moderate, or difficult. Each of the trails is labeled with what you will see while you are hiking too. For example, some of them the hike is located right along a stream, or some you can see beautiful wildflowers.

There are also several different programs that are offered for children, adults, or families. Some of these different programs are Golf Cart Tours, Seasonal Night Hikes, and more. They also have special events at the Kalamazoo Nature Center year-round.

4. Lawton Ridge Winery

The Lawton Ridge Winery was established in 1974 and is a must-visit place in Kalamazoo, MI. Enjoy their amazing tasting room with their red and white wines. This is a great place to bring friends or family and enjoy some great wine. The tasting includes up to six different wines that you can try.

5. Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum 

Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum is a great place to visit for both children and adults. In the air zoo, there are several exhibits, collections, and fun activities to do. Some of the exhibits are Apo11o, Aircraft, Women in Aviation and Space, and more. The collection part of the Air Zoo includes many different artifacts. There are also many different activities to do while you are there as well. These include Flight Simulators, Biplane Rides, and Indoor Amusement Park Rides.

The Kalamazoo Beer Exchange is a great gastropub to grab a bite to eat. Start off with the Fajita Nachos, Beer Battered Fried Pickles, or the Roasted Garlic Hummus. The HopCat is a delicious bar and grill to get great food with friends or family. For starters, try the Buffalo Rolls or the Pretzel Nuggz. You will for sure want to try their Cosmik Fries. Erbelli’s Gourmet Pizza is a fantastic pizza restaurant that you will want to go and eat at again and again. Try an appetizer such as the Prosciutto Bites or the Erbbie Bread. For mains, try a Fresh Wrap, Fresh Pasta, Crisp Salads, Calzones, Sub Sandwiches, or one of the many pizza options. Try the Disco Q Pizza or the Prosciutto de Parma Pizza. Food Dance Restaurant


Food Dance has been serving artisanal, locally produced food since its inception in 1994. Ingredients are sourced from nearby producers for both the restaurant and the market (including sustainably raised fresh meat). Julie Stanley says Food Dance’s purpose is to establish a sustainable local food system in Kalamazoo. The macaroni and cheese at the restaurant is great!

Latitude 42 is a fantastic restaurant to go to and grab a drink and a bite to eat. As a starter try the Truffle Fries or the Loaded Queso Fry. For mains, try a soup or salad, one of their 12” Signature Pizzas, entries, 42 Handhelds, or a Pandemic Taco. We recommend the L42 Beer Cheese Soup or the Chipotle Chicken Taco.
